At present Maria's Closet works with young women residing in the Harbor area of Los Angeles -- Wilmington, San Pedro, Harbor City 

Selection Process

In order to become a participant in Maria's dress giveaway (dress, hair-makeup, and accessories) you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be referred by your principal/counselor, community organization staff or social care agency.

  2. Be a senior enrolled and attending high school within the Los Angeles Harbor area.

  3. Have passing grades with a minimum GPA of 2.0.

  4. You must be able to demonstrate financial need.

 

 

Maria's Closet Referral Procedure :

  • If you meet the above criteria, please have your school counselor or social care agency complete the Application with you.

  • Once the application package is complete, your referring representative will contact Maria's Closet for consideration by our Board by submitting the package via email.

  • Once selected, Maria's Closet will send selection notification to your referring person along with dates, times and location information. 

At Maria's Closet we aim to dress and celebrate all of our accepted applicants and we invite them to choose a dress  that makes them feel confident and inspired as they ready for their final high school dance.  Trust us to celebrate your unique and beautiful self on Prom Night.  

Our Dress giveaway is designed to celebrate you and create a day of positive self-esteem and empowerment.  In order to serve everyone equally, we ask that selectees arrive on time and with an open mind. We have lots of beautiful dresses to choose from in sizes 0-30. Experienced stylists aim to find a dress you love. One dress per selectee.  The dress may not be exchanged. 

Special perks:

  • Based on availability, Maria's Closet tries to include accessories to complete your special look. 

  • If a selected dress needs minor alterations to make for a perfect fit, you will have enough days before your prom to arrange alterations.

  • All items are free of charge and are yours to keep.

  • Based on the current space for our pop-up dress give-away day, please refer to your reservation information as to whether or not a guest may accompany you. 

  • Your appointment with us can take up to a few hours. Please adjust your calendar to make the appropriate time. 

  • Remember to bring a student ID.

2019 Dress Giveaway Information

Our 2019 event will be held at the Mary Star of the Sea High School of San Pedro, CA, Sunday, March 10, 2018.  Each selected candidate will be allowed to bring up to 2 parents/guardians to the event.  Once the selectee has entered the venue, she will be assigned a stylist and a punch card. The stylist will walk her through the event process. 

The stylist will do her best to make a dress match and walk selectee through other stations that include matching purses, swag bags of make-up, and mentoring by hair and make-up stylists.  We at Maria's Closet are looking forward to serving you on this special occasion.
